About KABAR Knives and the US Marine Corps

The Ka-Bar Knife was adopted by the US Marine Corps in 1942, is renowned for its efficiency and utility in combat.

Known initially as the 1219C2 combat knife and later the USMC Mark 2, it was designed in response to the inadequacies of WWI-era knives. Enhanced by USMC Colonel John M. Davis and Major Howard E. America, the Ka-Bar featured a longer, stronger blade and an improved grip. Its dual-purpose design, ideal for jungle warfare, combined combat effectiveness and utility.

Produced by various manufacturers like Camillus Cutlery and Union Cutlery Co., it became a staple in military and civilian use. The Ka-Bar’s legacy continues today, embodying adaptability and resilience, and remains a crucial tool in military gear.
