About Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton
Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is a significant USMC West Coast base in San Diego County. Established in 1942, it’s named after Major General Joseph Henry Pendleton.
Hosting I Marine Expeditionary Force and training units, MCB Camp Pendleton spans 125,000 acres. Its history dates back to 1769 Spanish expeditions and later ranching. This Marine Corps base expanded rapidly in WWII and served in subsequent wars. Today, MCAS Camp Pendleton supports Marine Aircraft Group 39, reflecting aviation’s growing role.
